Description
Tencel is a trademarked brand name for a type of lyocell and modal fibre made from sustainably harvested wood pulp. It is sourced from trees like eucalyptus, beech and spruce and then broken down into its cellulose fibres to spin into a soft textile yarn for weaving fabric.
It is classed as ‘semi-synthetic’ as it is made from a natural fibre but it is man-made and requires chemicals processing to become a fibre.
Tencel features a smooth, silky soft surface that is gentle against sensitive skin. It is breathable, absorbs moisture efficiently and is cool is hot weather.
It is stronger than standard rayon and holds up well after regular washing. The production of this cloth is classed as eco-friendly as it is manufactured using a closed-loop system as Lenzing AG recovers and reuses over 99% of its non-toxic solvents.
We stock this lovely cloth in navy, brown and silver grey.
These fabrics drape beautifully and have plenty of movement. They are great for creating elegant silhouettes in dresses, skirts and blouses, but also make a great choice for wide legged elasticated trousers too. Perfect for office-wear, loungewear, and every day clothing.
