Quilting sewing needles (also known as Sharps Needles) are very short and fine with a round eye. Traditionally, used by tailors and professional sewers, but nowadays commonly used for quilting patchworks. The diameter of the needle is the same as a Sharps Needle, except that they are shorter in length, which allows the quilter to create quick and even stitching.

What do the sizes mean?
The lower the number, the finer the needle
The higher the number the larger the needle
Most needle companies show both sizes on the package e.g: 4/8

So the finer your fabric, the finer the needle needed.
