If you decide to buy only one type of needle, it should be Sharps. Sharps are general purpose, medium-length needles and are the most commonly used hand sewing needles. They are also very sharp!

What do the sizes mean?
The lower the number, the finer the needle
The higher the number the larger the needle
Most needle companies show both sizes on the package e.g: 4/8

So the finer your fabric, the finer the needle needed.
